Nova Post Shopify App
Shopify App that automates Nova Post cross-border shipping: live rates at checkout, pickup branch and parcel locker selection on cart and product pages, shipment creation with international documentation, label printing, and tracking sync, built for merchants shipping across 16 European countries and Ukraine.
We built the Nova Post Shopify app for Nova Post, the international arm of NOVA Group. The app brings Nova Post's delivery network to Shopify merchants across Europe: calculate delivery costs, let customers choose a Nova Post branch or parcel locker, generate shipments with customs documentation, print labels, and track parcels — all from the Shopify admin.
Nova Post is the European face of NOVA Group, the company behind Nova Poshta — Ukraine's largest logistics operator. In 2025, NOVA Group delivered 522 million parcels, including 13 million international shipments. Nova Post doubled its European branch network to 800 locations across 16 countries in a single year and plans to increase international volumes by over 30% in 2026. The company is already profitable in five European markets.
Countries Served
🇵🇱 Poland · 🇱🇹 Lithuania · 🇩🇪 Germany · 🇨🇿 Czech Republic · 🇷🇴 Romania · 🇸🇰 Slovakia · 🇱🇻 Latvia · 🇪🇪 Estonia · 🇭🇺 Hungary · 🇲🇩 Moldova · 🇮🇹 Italy · 🇫🇷 France · 🇦🇹 Austria · 🇬🇧 United Kingdom · 🇪🇸 Spain · 🇳🇱 Netherlands → 🇺🇦 Ukraine
Merchants can send parcels from any of these countries to any other listed country, including to Ukraine.
The Challenge
Nova Post is expanding across Europe fast. Branches in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, and more — with a network that's scaling every quarter. But as Nova Post builds infrastructure across Europe, the merchants who want to use it on Shopify had no way to integrate.
European Shopify merchants — whether selling domestically in Poland or shipping cross-border between Germany and the Czech Republic — had no app to calculate Nova Post rates, let customers pick a branch, generate shipments with the right customs documentation, or print international labels. Everything had to be done manually, outside Shopify.
Nova Post needed a Shopify app that worked across all 16 markets. They didn't have Shopify app development experience in-house. They did know about our Nova Poshta Service app — the one we built on our own initiative in 2021 for Ukrainian merchants. That app had been running for over four years, serving 550+ stores. Nova Post reached out and asked us to build the international version.
Our Goal
Build a production-ready Shopify app for Nova Post that handles the full cross-border shipping workflow: rate calculation, branch and parcel locker selection, shipment creation with international customs documentation, label and invoice printing, and tracking sync. The app had to work across 16 European countries with different delivery options, support multiple languages, and be simple enough for any Shopify merchant to set up without a developer.
Unlike our Nova Poshta app — which we built, published, and maintain ourselves — this was a commissioned project. Nova Post wanted the app under their own name and their own Shopify developer account. We developed it, they took over app support and maintenance. It's their product. We built it.
Solution Overview
The Nova Post app integrates Nova Post shipping directly into Shopify. A merchant installs the app, enters their Nova Post API key and contract numbers, configures their sender address, and the integration is live. From there, the app handles the full workflow from checkout to delivery.
Rate Calculation and Checkout
The app calculates real-time Nova Post shipping rates based on order weight, dimensions, and destination. Merchants can offer four delivery combinations: address-to-address (door-to-door), address-to-branch (sender ships, customer picks up), branch-to-address, and branch-to-branch. Each method can be set as carrier-calculated (live rates), flat rate, or disabled. Free delivery thresholds are configurable per method.

When Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) is enabled, the app displays the nearest Nova Post branches at checkout, calculated from the customer's delivery address. Merchants can control how many branches appear. On stores without CCS — which includes most non-Plus Shopify plans — the app works with fixed-rate shipping methods.
Branch and Parcel Locker Selection
Customers can choose their preferred Nova Post pickup point — a branch, cargo branch, parcel locker, or pick-up/drop-off partner location — from a widget embedded in the shopping cart page or product page.

For Shopify Plus stores, the same widget can be added directly to the checkout page via the checkout editor. The selection flows through to the order details automatically.

This is one area where the Nova Post app goes further than our Nova Poshta app did at launch. The cart and product page widgets give customers on any Shopify plan a way to select their preferred Nova Post division before they reach checkout — without requiring CCS.
Shipment Creation and Documentation
Once an order is placed, merchants create Nova Post shipments directly from the Shopify order page. The app generates all required documentation: marking labels for domestic shipments, international shipping documents for cross-border parcels, and invoices. Everything prints from the Shopify admin.

Shipments can be created manually per order or configured to generate automatically when order data is complete. Tracking numbers sync back to Shopify orders, and customers receive tracking information via email.
Customs and Export
Cross-border shipping adds layers that domestic delivery doesn't have. The app handles HS tariff codes — merchants can set a default code for all products or assign specific codes per product. Custom product descriptions can also be added for export documentation. International document generation produces the paperwork required for customs clearance. Cash on delivery is supported with configurable payment method matching.
Packaging and Dimensions
Merchants configure packaging parameters with fixed box dimensions or product-based dimensions using Shopify metafields. For stores where products don't have weight or dimensions set, the app falls back to configurable defaults. A packaging handling fee can be added to reflect true fulfilment costs.
From Domestic to International: Building on What We Knew
We had four years of experience with our Nova Poshta app when Nova Post approached us. That experience was invaluable, not because we could copy-paste the codebase, but because we already understood Shopify's constraints and had solutions for the hard problems.
We knew how CCS works and its downsides. We knew what Shopify Plus unlocks in the checkout editor and what's locked on standard plans. We knew how to build cart page widgets that give customers branch selection regardless of their Shopify plan. We knew the rhythm of Shopify app development: the review process, the testing requirements, the edge cases that only surface at scale.
The Nova Poshta app gave us the foundation. The core shipping logic: rate calculation, order processing, label generation, tracking sync, followed similar patterns. But the Nova Post app required a different API integration entirely. Nova Poshta's API serves domestic Ukrainian shipments. Nova Post's API serves international European shipments. Different endpoints, different data structures, different validation rules.
Multi-country address validation was a significant challenge. Each of the 16 supported countries has its own address format, postal code structure, and city naming conventions. The app needs to validate addresses accurately across all of them to ensure shipments are created correctly and branches are matched to customer locations.
International document generation - customs declarations, commercial invoices, HS code handling, custom product descriptions for export is functionality that simply doesn't exist in a domestic shipping app. We built it from scratch for this project.
The multi-language requirement (English, Ukrainian, Czech, and German at launch) added another dimension. Every label, every interface element, every error message needed to work correctly in all supported languages.
What Nova Post Is Building in Europe
The Shopify app is one piece of a much larger strategy. Nova Post is investing heavily in European logistics infrastructure. The company plans to invest over $5 million in the next phase of expansion, including an automated sorting line in the Czech Republic and a proprietary distribution system in Germany.
In the Netherlands alone, Nova Post grew parcel volumes fivefold in 2025 after entering the market at the end of 2024, with nearly 1,400 service points already available. Partnerships with Sendcloud and Vinted Go are planned for 2026.
The Shopify app supports this expansion by giving European merchants a ready-made integration. As Nova Post opens branches in new cities and countries, merchants can offer those delivery options to their customers immediately without custom development.
Summary
The Nova Post app launched on the Shopify App Store in August 2025 as a free app, published under Nova Post's own developer account. It supports merchants across 16 European countries shipping to each other and to Ukraine.
We developed the app and handed it to Nova Post's team. They manage app support and maintenance. When new features are needed, they reach out.
We're glad to be part of Nova Post's European expansion. Nova Post brings a level of delivery service, speed, and reliability that stands out and giving European merchants and their customers access to that experience through Shopify is a win for everyone involved. Merchants get a shipping option their customers can rely on. Customers get fast, trackable delivery with a dense pickup network.
